A New Form of Efficient Tree-based Priority Queues for Discrete Event Simulation
نویسندگان
چکیده
A priority queue plays an important role in stochastic discrete event simulations for as much as 40% of a simulation execution time is consumed by the pending event set management. This article describes a new form of tree-based priority queues which employs the demarcation procedure to systematically split a single tree-based priority queue into many smaller trees, each divided by a logical time boundary. These new Demarcate Construction priority queues offer an average speedup of more than twice over the single treebased counterparts and outperform the current expected O(1) Calendar Queue in many scenarios. Their superior performance renders them suitable for many applications such as discrete event simulators.

Smart priority queue algorithms for self-optimizing event storage
Low run-time overhead, self-adapting storage policies for priority queues called Smart Priority Queue (SPQ) techniques are developed and evaluated. The proposed SPQ policies employ a lowcomplexity linear queue for near-head activities and a rapid-indexing variable bin-width calendar queue for distant events. The SPQ configuration is determined by monitoring queue access behavior using cost-scor...

Priority queues are fundamental in the design of modern multiprocessor algorithms. Priority queues with parallel access are an attractive data structure for applications like prioritized online scheduling, discrete event simulation, or branch-and-bound. This paper proposes an alternative approach: to base the design of concurrent priority queues on the Modified Skip List data structure. To this...

This paper, considers Network Failure Manufacturing System (NFPMS) and production control policy of unreliable multi-machines, multi-products with perishable items. The production control policy is based on the Hedging Point Policy (HPP). The important point in the simulation of this system is assumed that the customers who receive perishable item are placed in priority queue of the customers w...
متن کاملMultiQueues: Simpler, Faster, and Better Relaxed Concurrent Priority Queues
Priority queues with parallel access are an attractive data structure for applications like prioritized online scheduling, discrete event simulation, or branchand-bound. However, a classical priority queue constitutes a severe bottleneck in this context, leading to very small throughput. Hence, there has been significant interest in concurrent priority queues with a somewhat relaxed semantics w...
